Breakfasts:  7-10 points

2 eggs (4 pts) with fresh fruit (0 pts) and whole grain toast (3) with one tsp of real butter (1)

Overnight oats (5-7 pts) with a boiled egg (2)

Egg/egg white omelet (3) with fresh veggies (0) fruit (0) and either cheese (2) or yogurt (2)

Lunches:  12-15 points

Leftovers, salads and protein or sandwich with veggies and dip.  Girls – tuna and egg salad sandwiches, carrots & dip, fruit.

Afternoon snack:  4-6 points

String cheese, almonds, fruit, air popped popcorn, veggies w/ hummus

 

Monday:  Leftovers from graduation party w/ added veggies

Tuesday: Leftovers, green salad

Wednesday: Parents’

Thursday: Ground turkey meatloaf muffins, green beans, oven potato wedges

Friday: Parent’s 4th of July

Saturday:  Grilled chicken, veggie pasta salad

Sunday: Chicken legs, seasoned fries, salad  (no fries for me – leftover brown rice)

Monday: Red beans & brown rice (kielbasa and rice for the kids)

Tuesday: Steamed garlic veggies, chicken and leftover veggie pasta salad

Wednesday: Parent’s

Thursday: Pinto beans w/ corn muffin (kids will have leftovers)

Friday:  Spaghetti with turkey meatballs, green vegetable

Saturday: Parent’s

Sunday:  Stone soup & corn muffins (fish sticks for kids)

Monday: Chicken w/ spinach and garlic over whole wheat pasta, green veggie

Shopping list: $34 for 17 days!  Thankfully we have a TON of leftovers from the graduation party – even after sending food home with friends and family!  Will be shopping at Aldi and the Bulk Food store

I’m So Done

I’m so sick of myself I could scream.  Sick of attempting to lose weight and failing.  Oh, it’s my own fault – for sure – but finding that “willpower” or “inner strength” or whatever you want to call it seems impossible.

I’ve been going to WW for about 5 or 6 months and to be honest, I weigh weekly (pretty much) but don’t go to any of the meetings.  YES – I know.  I will have a good week or two and then I will gain again or stay the same or whatnot.  I’ve definitely lost while I’ve been there – but not consistently.  I just can’t stand myself.  My daily failures.  My weakness when it comes to saying no to food.  It’s pathetic.  These past two weeks have been the worst.  Sure I could state increased stress, upheaval in my schedule, hectic life, etc. but the truth is – I eat a healthy breakfast, healthy lunch and then between about 5 and 8 all hell break’s loose.  No joke.

So here is why I am posting this today.  I’m putting this very touchy, personal subject out there for all to see.  I am going to give my all to WW starting Monday (no no no now wait a minute – it’s not that whole monday mentality – it’s because I have two events this weekend where food is the primary focus and to start now would just result in immediate failure – so deal) for the next six months.  By the end of 2014 if I have not broken this cycle and have started losing consistently (not looking for miracles) – then in 2015 I am going to start looking at weight loss surgery.  (And don’t tell me horror stories here about WLS – I already know –  but I need SOMETHING to show me some loss so I can see the reasoning behind eating healthfully instead of doing it will little to no results because I can’t keep it up on my own)

Basically I’m at the end of my rope.   More details regarding my plan to come.

As I look outside my window:::  I see the new driveway!  I should be able to drive on it in a few days :)

 

Right now I am::: Sitting in my favorite chair, with the air conditioner going and the fan blowing on me!  (I can’t stand to be hot when I’m inside!)

 

Thinking and pondering:::  Today’s Jennah’s 18th bday – so thinking about tonight and still planning for her grad party next week.   Pondering a LOT about finances and how to increase my cash flow ASAP.

On the menu for this week:::  Now that Jennah and I are both working (!!) and we are sharing one car, plus the girls’ activities, etc – scheduling is more important than ever!  So I am trying very hard to be super organized this week!  (TRYING)

Monday –

Lunch:  Ham & provolone sandwich with thyme mayonaise, a banana and pretzels

Dinner:  Chicken burritos w/ avocado, chips & salsa (make extra chicken for Wed lunch)

BF:  Scrambled eggs, banana & a blueberry biscuit

Lunch:  Doc @ work buys lunch :)

Dinner:  Pork roast in the slow cooker w/ gravy, rice, green salad, homemade garlic bread (use 1/2 to make croutons)

BF:  Cereal for girls, overnight oats w/ boiled egg for me

Lunch:  Salads topped with chicken and croutons, banana

Dinner:  Dinner with my parents

BF:  Toad ‘n the hole, berries & yogurt

A Rose Planted in Turmoil

Even the best changes come with challenges.  My sweet Jennah has moved back in with me full time (instead of going back and forth, staying a lot of time with her dad) so she brought over all the stuff that is most important to her in the world. We have revamped our lovely, small home to adjust to the new onslaught of stuff.  We have a two-bedroom home, and although there is enough room for both of my girls in the larger of the two rooms, I have decided to let them both have their own rooms, forgoing having a room of my own.  I did this for two reasons.  1.)  Jennah turns 18 tomorrow and she deserves privacy (well, they both do) and 2.) Jennah will only be with me a couple of years, as she is starting college in the fall and I imagine will be quite independent by the time she is 20 or 21.  I will have many, many years in my own room, I’d much rather have my girls traipsing through my “room” (living room) and being surrounded by their talking and laughter.

So the front closet is now pretty much housing all of my clothing, purses, shoes, pictures, etc.  I bought a couple of bins and it is actually quite organized.  It’s lucky I don’t have many clothes!  (NO, I’m joking, I want more clothes!  And purses.  Shoes too.  Just sayin’)  I will finally be moving my grandmother’s armoire into the house next week and this will keep our extra linens, as we lost a closet.  There should be a shelf empty for some of my personal belongings as well.

THINGS are not so important to me.  Even giving up my bed wasn’t a question.  I love my kids with a ferocity that trumps ANYTHING.  I’m going to be brutally honest here.  I did not fight hard enough in the past for my kids.  And the guilt of it is weighing very, very heavily on my heart and soul right now.  My ex-husband – well, I won’t get into it here, but I tried very hard not to rock the boat for the past several years because I knew he would take it out on them.  (no, he hasn’t beat them, if he did he would no longer be living)  But damnit I should have found a way to get God’s wrath to reign down on his head!!!!  Until Jennah moved in completely and started talking (and talking and talking!)  I had NO idea how hard it was over there for my kids!  I mean, I suspected, and they leaked out a hint here and there, but I just didn’t know. But I do now.  And I am A SCORNED MAMA BEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m teetering on the line here of saying what is appropriate without airing my dirty laundry all over the Internet.  All I can say is that it is going to take Jennah awhile to feel restored.  I will do anything and everything in my power to bring her confidence back, to make her feel safe in her own home, to hold her head up high, to be proud of her accomplishments, to know she is beautiful, smart and WORTHY.  Anyone who sees my Facebook page knows how proud I am of my girl.  She is A-MA-ZING.  And to hear how hard it was for her to overcome that household and fight her way through my ex-husband and accomplish so much?  I’m ten times more proud.

I’m trying real hard not to beat myself up.  For all the years I was quiet and didn’t fight and argue on their behalf because they begged me not to do it.  The guilt I feel is no small thing.  But again, I have years to feel the guilt.  Right now is time for me to gather my strength (Prayer, immersing myself in the Word, filling myself with HIS strength!) put a smile on my face and make my girl HAPPY.  Give her a home where she will not just live safe and comfortably – but THRIVE into the strong, confident woman that I know she is meant to be.

I know this post hasn’t mentioned Jacob.  He is still living with my ex.  But after hearing the truth from Jennah, I’m taking action.  I love my boy like crazy.  But I can’t talk about that right now.

Sorry to be such a downer – but that is what blogs are for – to vent and work through issues in your life.  It can’t all be about meal plans and cleaning the house, can it?

Two-week menu plan

Time for my 2-week shopping and menu plan!  There is a LOT going on in the next two weeks!  My Jennah will be turning 18 on Sunday!  Then my bestest friend in the entire world will be coming for a long overdue visit the following Friday!  Then Saturday the 28th will be the annual Downriver Cruise (a local classic car cruise through several cities) which flows right in front of my dad’s business.  They cook out and lots of family and friends show up.  I will be “live posting” on their FB page from the cruise.  Then Sunday is Jennah’s graduation party!  I’m the host and there is still so much to do!  

Tomorrow and Friday will be my shopping days.  I have several stores to go to.  Meijer is having their 11/10 sale.  Kroger has 99-cent eggs and 1.99 chicken breast as well as a few other goodies.  Then all the basics at Aldi.  Family Dollar for cleaning supplies and paper products.  Finally Dollar Tree for a few odds and ends.  (All the stores are within a 2-mile radius of one another)  

School is out and Jennah is babysitting most days of the week – so we are on the same schedule.  I’ll make us breakfast while the lazy butt 14-year-old sleeps in.  

 

Breakfasts:  Scrambled eggs and toast, overnight oats, cereal w/ skim milk and fruit, breakfast burritos, blueberry pancakes and special birthday breakfast:  quiche and bacon! 

Lunches:  Leftovers, lunchmeat sandwiches with pretzels and fruit, tuna, chicken or egg salad sandwiches w/ fruit or carrots, salad topped with grilled chicken.  

Dinners

Thursday – After working all day and then shopping afterward, I’m thinking it’s going to be the old standby of fish sticks and curly fries with salad for the girls :/   

Friday – Grilled chicken, pasta salad w/ veggies, corn on the cob 

Saturday – Pork chops, rice, green veggie and salad (Jennah is attending grad party, so she will eat there) 

Sunday – JENNAH’S BIRTHDAY!  Dinner with family – Jennah’s restaurant of choice

Monday – Roast chicken in the Crockpot with potatoes, carrots and green beans 

Tuesday – Girls will have hot dogs w/ leftover pasta salad.  I will have chicken and dumplings with leftover chicken! 

Wednesday – Dinner with family 

Thursday – Grilled chicken tacos with avocado, chips and salsa 

Friday – My best friend will be here!  Bubble up pizza 

Saturday – Chicken parmesan w/ spaghetti and broccoli 

Sunday – Jennah’s graduation party!  We will have leftovers for dinner! 

Monday – Probably more leftovers for dinner. If not, chicken nuggets, baked french fries and green veggie. 

Tuesday – Meatloaf muffins, rice, green beans

Forgive me for not using the regular outline for Happy Homemaker Monday – but I am at work and typing this up on a Word document to e-mail to myself to post later (

So, last week I made a grand gesture about living intentionally. Did I even start? NOPE. So let’s begin now.

Today for living intentionally

I will do my Jesus the One and Only Bible study

I will work out with my toning band (I’ve done some cardio the past 2 days)

I will NOT overeat tonight! Ugh! I have such trouble in the evenings!

I will make my kitchen SHINE before bed (evening routine)

I’m going to make up my own categories today. So sorry Sandra! But I do want to participate!

ON MY DESK (I’m at work () – A large Sonic green tea with a shot of s/f blackberry (obsessed!) my Kindle, a Nutrigrain bar and my phone. The rest is all your normal desk stuff!

OUT MY WINDOW – I look out at the top of a couple of small fir trees, telephone wires and the sky. There is a family of finches who daily grace me with their presence. A little touch of God every time I see them. Today is very overcast and we are expecting storms, so my view is quite gray. It is about 70 now, but will be a very humid 80-something by the time I leave.

WHAT’S ON MY MIND – My kids. Jake: I need Jake’s football practice schedule to work out rides. Emily: We homeschool year round (works best for us) and thinking about some project that will really be fun for her. Jennah: Tonight is her Awards and Scholarship night! Wednesday is graduation. Thinking a whole LOT about pulling off her graduation party on a tight budget. It’ll happen – I have faith in God!

WHAT I’M READING – Last week I finished The Thorn Birds and then borrowed my daughter’s book, The Fault in Our Stars. It was so sad, but I really enjoyed it. Read it in a day. Last night started Chill Factor by Sandra Brown – mystery/thriller. Read 25% of it. Good so far. Next up, I THINK, is Lonesome Dove!

FRIDAY – Kid’s choice every Friday – chicken legs, tator tots, carrot sticks with dip. (The carrot sticks weren’t their choice but I need a veggie somewhere!)

SATURDAY – Kid’s choice for big breakfast – blueberry pancakes and turkey bacon – Dinner @ Parents’ house with the kids

SUNDAY – Grilled chicken, brown rice, lots of veggies (making extra chicken for salads for work lunches)

IN MY PRAYERS – A friend of mine from high school is having some health issues and God has put him and his family in my heart. My old church is sending a group out on a mission trip to Mexico in a couple of weeks! Two of my friends’ children are going. Praying for the trip to be safe and for them to make a change and bring people to Christ, as well as them to have an experience that will be with them always. My children, always!

Living Intentionally – Phase One

It’s no surprise to me that I haven’t blogged in awhile.  I am so bad at blogging consistently.  In fact, I am terrible at doing anything consistently :/  SO – I have a long weekend, like many others in the US due to Memorial Day, and I plan to get organized and set up a routine to follow.  

For way too long now I haven’t been living intentionally.  I’ve been going through the motions and doing what I have to do.  The rest of the time I “lose myself” in books or television.  I think the summer is the best time to focus on intentional living!  

I found this “Be Intentional:  30 Baby Steps for Whole Life Change” on The Thrifty Couple.  I follow them on FB and first saw the post there awhile back and thought to myself – Yes!  That is what I need to do!  Not every step is individualized, so I will be modifying it in order to make it cover the things in my life that most need change.  

They break it down into five areas – 

  • Self
  • Home
  • Budget
  • Schedule
  • Frugality 

I am going to add one more area, which I feel is most important:

  • Faith

And a 7th area, which isn’t important overall – but it’s what I personally need right now: 

  • Health & Beauty 

Over the next month (I’m preparing, making up a binder, lists and organizing today and tomorrow) starting this Sunday, May 25th, I will make weekly goals in each of these six areas over the next 4 weeks.  If I am not in a better place at that time, then I will go for another 30 days.  Therefore, I will call this month “Phase One”.  (You see I am already expecting to need more than one month!  LOL)  

 

So here are my Intentional Living Goals: 

 

SELF

  1. Morning five-minute stretch
  2. Drink ALL of my water
  3. Take vitamins
  4. Walk!  ASAP! 

HOME

  1. 20-minute daily quick clean
  2. Make bed daily 
  3. Daily morning routine
  4. Daily night routine

BUDGET

  1. Cut 2% from budget
  2. Find another source of income
  3. Write goals for savings on 2% rule
  4. Create monthly budget

SCHEDULE

  1. Make and use weekly to-do list
  2. USE a calendar consistently
  3. Make Homemaking binder
  4. Make and use a daily schedule

FRUGALITY

  1. Make healthier homemade versions of store bought foods
  2. Cut out all fast food (YES, even ICED TEA)
  3. Create thrifty goals
  4. Make-ahead frugal freezer/Crockpot freezer meals 

FAITH

  1. DAILY Bible reading!!!!!  (DAILY!!)
  2. 3x weekly Bible study 
  3. Work on prayer life
  4. Go to church on a more regular basis 

HEALTH & BEAUTY

  1. Paint nails mani/pedi consistently
  2. Use lotion daily
  3. Wear makeup (and quit scaring people!) 
  4. Use coconut oil on extra dry skin

So there you have it.  My plan.  Not sure which 6 things I will be doing the first week!  I’ll update when I do my Monday post.

Menu Plan Monday April 14, 2014

Last night some of my great friends came over to my place for girls’ night at my place to celebrate my birthday a little early.  They brought me a cake, Just Baked cupcakes and gifts.  We had some great food and girl talk.  I always enjoy when we get together.  I always overeat too!  But seeing as it is my birthday week (yes, week) as well as Easter, a lot of food is going on.  So for all the other meals I plan to go back on Weight Watchers Simple Start (or stupid start as I call it – only because I want pizza and chips and can’t have them!  hahaha)  Actually it is smart, easy to follow and super healthy – mostly.  I plan to tweak it just the tiniest bit to make it more long-term friendly.

I spent a good portion of my paycheck grocery shopping.  Overflowing cart at Aldi and then more from Kroger.  My kitchen is just filled up with fruits, veggies (both fresh and frozen) chicken, fish, ground turkey, whole grains, herbs spices, etc etc.  I get paid every two weeks, so I bought enough to get us through (and probably even further than) two weeks.

 

Breakfasts :

breakfast “hash” – eggs, diced potatoes, peppers, onion and turkey sausage with a piece of fruit

baked banana oatmeal with a boiled egg

whole wheat mini bagel with fruit and a string cheese

overnight refrigerator oats

(Kids add cereal and blueberry pancakes with turkey bacon)

 

Lunches:

Salad topped with protein (chicken, beans, etc) and a piece of fruit

1st week – Taco soup with veggies and dip

Leftovers with side salad or fruit

2nd week –  Veggie soup with beans, yogurt, fruit

Turkey or chicken and veggie wrap with veggies and dip

(Kids add turkey sandwich or pb&j )

 

Dinners:

Baked chicken in Crockpot with potatoes, carrots, onions & green beans

Tilapia with bulgur pilaf, broccoli, green salad

Red beans w/ turkey sausage in Crockpot over brown rice, green salad

Spicy Fish Taco Bowl 

Turkey burgers on the GF grill and oven fries, veggies and dip

Chicken burritos with avocado crema  (simplified)

Vegetable/whole grain spaghetti with turkey meatballs, green salad

Chicken grilled on GF with roasted cabbage and carrots and brown rice

We will have Easter and my birthday dinner over my parents’ house with family, plus another night over the two weeks.

(Kids – add chicken nuggets and french fries or mac n cheese if they don’t like what i cook)

I’m planning ahead for a great week!  Linking up over at Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday!

As I look outside my window:::  It’s a little bit overcast this morning, as we are expecting rain.  Temperatures are going to drop overnight and there is even a chance of snow on the horizon.  But I love living in Michigan no matter what!

Right now I am::: Planning out my day and my week.

Thinking and pondering::: All the things I need to accomplish today as it is my only free day of the week!

On my bedside table:::  Compilation of Jane Austen’s Books, my Kindle and phone.

On my tv this week (I watch all my shows online! Here are the ones I am looking forward to most this week)

Listening to:::  Sounds of the washer and dryer running.  *sigh*

On the menu for this week:::  (I am following WW Simply Filling technique aside from my birthday dinner and Easter dinner)

Monday –  Roast sticky chicken with potatoes, carrots, green beans and salad

Tuesday –  Tilapia with bulgur pilaf, broccoli and salad

Wednesday –  Celebrating my birthday early with my family – Baked ziti, garlic bread and salad.  Stone Cold Creamery cake!

Thursday –  Skinny chicken burritos with chunky avocado salsa

Friday – Turkey burgers, oven fries, veggies and dip

Saturday – Veggie spaghetti with turkey meatballs, green beans

Sunday – Easter dinner with my family – Ham & the works

On my to do list:::  For today my to do list is pretty long – cleaning, laundry, errands, school work, yard work, cook ahead, etc.

Happening this week:::

Monday – Work from 8-3, Emme and I going to my Dad’s shop to help him with a computer issue, school work, daily chores

Tuesday – Work from 8-4, school work, daily chores

Wednesday – Work from 8-3, school work, b-day dinner @ family, evening chores

Thursday – Work from 8-4, school work, daily chores

Friday – Work from 8-2, school work, daily chores, plan to attend Good Friday service

Saturday – School work, house and yard work, laundry

Sunday – Easter!  But still Cleaning and planning day

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::  I plan to make some brown sugar scrub.  A friend from work brought some in and it makes my hands feel so soft after using it.  Seems simple enough!

My simple pleasure:::  Petting my cat and hearing her purr.

Lesson learned the past week:::  Having a group of good girlfriends is awesome.

Looking around the house:::  Kat is in my chair looking at me with a disgruntled look on her face, listening to the washer and dryer, thinking how much I need a couple of throw pillows for my couch, smelling my Scentsy burner.

 Prayer List::: A very good friend of mine who is going through a difficult time, my family as always, Jennah and Jacob as they go to Florida with their father for spring break (boo) and our country.

Bible verse, Devotional:::  Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
