As I look outside my window:::  Kids are playing soccer in the street.  Birds are searching for worms in the grass.  The wind is picking up and blowing through the still-empty trees.

Right now I am::: Relaxing!

Thinking and pondering::: About bills – making a little money stretch a long way!  Also about menu planning.

On my bedside table::: A lace doily and a compilation of Jane Austen’s works.

On my tv this week (I watch all my shows online!)

Ghost Adventures

Believe

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::  Well, this is loosely “creating” lol – but I do plan to do a bird feeder craft with the girls, just using seeds and on-hand items to hang up outside to feed all those hungry beaks!
My simple pleasure:::  Watching the birds outside my kitchen window while washing dishes.

Lesson learned the past week:::  Stick to your budget :/
Looking around the house:::  I see pink kitty toys on the wood floor, ceiling fan over the dining room table spinning,  dishes that need to be done!

Prayer List:::  My children and family as always.  Our country.  My friends.

Bible verse, Devotional:::  Hebrews 4:16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Have a blessed week,

Happy Homemaker Monday

I finally have a home to take care of once again – so I am happy to be back on Happy Homemaker Monday!

As I look outside my window:::  One of the first *true* days of spring.  Skies of the sweetest blue, air warm enough to crack the windows just a little, birds at the feeder.

Right now I am:::  Taking a break from cleaning!  Most things are pretty tidy and I deserve a break!

Thinking and pondering::: About the things I still need for my new home.  So many touches of *me* needed in each room.  Still waiting for the right tables to come along, pictures, etc.

On my bedside table::: A lace doily, white lamp with yellow striped shade, Kindle. Emily’s phone charging.

On my tv this week (I watch all my shows online!)

My simple pleasure:::  Relaxing in the evening catching up on my shows!

Lesson learned the past week:::  It’s better to tell a hard truth and get it over with than to hide it away and feel bad about it!
Looking around the house:::  Everything is clean and put away, beds made, fresh table cloth on the dining room table, laundry in the dryer.

Prayer List:::  My children and family, a woman who goes to my church’s little boy who is having surgery next week, a young teen who is struggling with pain and another adorable young boy recovering from a traumatic brain injury.

Bible verse, Devotional:::  Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Have a blessed week,

The Truly Mundane

It’s the simple things that make me really happy.  This morning it was looking into my backyard and seeing a woodpecker feeding on the suet.  The tween boys who are always in the middle of the street playing one sport or another.  My guess at the wildly exorbitant  electric bill of my neighbors who always have five (FIVE!) lamps on in their living room.  The American flag that waves outside of my bedroom window from the empty house next door.

I love waking up on Saturday mornings.  It’s quiet and I am the only one awake.  Addie, our cat, and I roam the house with a broom.  Wipe down the washer and dryer with spray cleaner made with orange-zest steeped vinegar.  Drop a square of vanilla wax on the warmer.  Straighten things here and there.  Stare out the window.

This afternoon my three teens and I will close ourselves into my old car and putter our way over to my mother’s house for dinner.  We’ll visit my sweet, doll-baby four-year-old nephew and two sisters.  I’m thinking of stopping at the thrift and picking up this chair I’ve fawned over at my last two visits that doesn’t have a price on it.  Very well loved chippy-white wooden chair.  Red gingham seat.  Faded stenciling.  I should get it.

Time to go and make breakfast.  I’m making a “hash” of red potatoes, eggs and turkey bacon.  Then I’ll start the laundry.  Refill the suet.  Going to get the Crockpot filled with bean and ham soup to separate into bowls for lunches next week.  I’m loving the mundane.

Two-Week Menu Plan on Pinterest

I’m so happy to be in my new home.  We are having our (hopefully!) last big winter storm of the season and I can hear the freezing rain pinging on the porch awning and the sound of the furnace kicking in.  I’m sitting on my comfy chair with my new cat curled up above my head.  It’s such a feeling of contentment.

My youngest and I will be doing a big shopping trip in the next couple of days and I have set up my menu on Pinterest.  I love having a visual!  I just have the dinners down so far.  I won’t be following all the recipes to a “T”, I will be using lean meats, whole grains, added veggies, etc to make the meals as healthy as possible.  (I am following Weight Watchers you know!)

I will be using a lot of Latin flavors over the next couple of weeks.  The fresh verdant flavors of lime and cilantro, the pairing of red onions with black beans and sweet corn … delicious.

I’m very excited about trying Skinny Taste’s Crockpot Carne Guisada with fresh aji picante.  Yum!

Cilantro Lime Chicken with a side of broccoli and bulger pilaf

Using the chicken leftovers, we’ll have have chicken and rice burritos using the flavors of Chipotle’s chicken burrito bowl.

My daughter’s favorite – jambalaya using shrimp, turkey sausage and chicken

Another new-to-me recipe, the Weary Chef’s slow cooker pork carnitas.  Topped with fresh guacamole in a corn tortilla.

Then I’ll break out the George Foreman grill and make these great looking Greek-style turkey burgers with some baked french fries.

With the rest of the ground turkey, I will be making some delicious taco soup in the slow cooker.

Finally, this spicy fish taco bowl looks amazing.  Can’t wait to try it!

Get A Move On

I’m so excited.  In just a few days the girls and I will be moving into our new home!  Eeeek!  It’s a perfect-for-us light green house in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan.   I have SO many plans for shabby chic-ing up some furniture, planting flowers, maybe an herb garden…  *sigh*   It has been far too long since we’ve had a place to truly call our own.  I’m so happy to be able to give them a home.  Beyond.

And for the record, the HOUSE is not shabby –  but much of the decor will be – or at least that is the plan.  I love the pretty soft fabrics, the flowers, the lace and gorgeous overstuffed pillows.

For now I’m doing the final packing.  My mother asked me if I wanted my grandmother’s china cabinet.  Do I?!  It’s a gorgeous piece of furniture and I feel so honored to have it.  I want to fill it with gorgeous mismatched thrifted plates, teacups and doilies!

There will be a lot of cooking going on, projects, mother-daughter movie nights, song writing, Bible studying, and hopefully a lot of great friends stopping by.

Can’t wait to get started.
